A Mondo Magic Mushroom grow kit contains:

• 1x grow box – This contains substrate with active mycelium (the cake)
• 1x grow bag – The bag has a micron filter to keep contaminants out
• 1x paperclip – For closing the grow bag.

You need

• Misting Bottle  – Misting is needed for the humidity level
• Potable water – For misting and soaking
• Clean environment – Work clean to give other fungi and bacteria (micro organisms) no chance to contaminate.

How to prepare the room and yourself before you begin

• Close any open windows. Wind or draft may bring microorganisms that can contaminate the Psilocybe cubensis Magic Mushroom grow kit.
• When taking out the grow box with the cake from the carton box, put it on a disinfected surface. If this surface would not be clean, microorganisms may attach to the grow box and will flourish inside the Psilocybe cubensis Magic Mushroom grow kit and will contaminate the grow box.
• Make sure you work with clean hands and arms. We recommend using surgical gloves or a good disinfectant when handling the kit. You should use a facemask to avoid breathing into the grow bag and on the cake.

Starting the process

1. Fill the box with fresh, potable water. Close the grow box well and let it soak for 12 hours.
2. After 12 hours, pour the surplus of water out of the grow box.
3. Place the grow box inside the grow bag. The open end of the bag should point upwards.
4. Remove the lid from the grow box. Rinse the lid and store it in the carton box.
5. Fold the open end of grow bag twice; do not cover the micron filter.
6. Place the paperclip on the fold, so the bag stays closed. Now the Psilocybe cubensis Magic Mushroom grow kit is ready to grow.
7. Place the Psilocybe cubensis Magic Mushroom grow kit inside the carton box, on top of the ziploc with lid.

Temperature

24°C is the optimal temperature. Do not allow the temperature to fall below 18°C or rise above 29°C. Use a Thermo Heatingmat to maintain the appropriate temperature and prevent it from falling below 18°C. In the winter or in colder parts of the world, a thermo mat is a need.

Light

Light is all that is required for the Psilocybe cubensis Mondo® Magic Mushroom Grow Kit to “understand” that it has reached the surface. Then mushrooms will start to develop. A few hours each day of indirect sunshine or fluorescent/artificial light are more than adequate. Avoid letting the sun beam directly on the grow kit as it may destroy the mycelium.

Water / Misting

You start with misting the day after you start the procedure. Remove the paperclip to reveal the grow bag. Spray once against each edge of the bag rather than immediately on the cake. So you mist four times daily. Additionally, misting vents new oxygen inside the bag. After misting, use the paperclip to reseal the bag.

Mushrooms

If the conditions are optimal, you can expect the first small mushrooms (the pins) to appear between 5 and 16 days. This also depends on the strain. Some cubensis strains grow slower than others.

Flushes

The mushrooms sprout in clusters. This group may be tiny or huge. According to the strain. This type of growth is known as a flush. Almost never do mushrooms get ripe at the same time. A kit can be used for more than one flush. The largest flushes are the first two. The subsequent flushes will be smaller than the first.

Picking

Picking mushrooms when the veil covering the stem and the hat has barely torn indicates that they are ripe. Wait no more, please. You can either clean your hands, wrists, and arms or use surgical gloves.

Pick the ripe mushrooms and leave the others to develop.

By grasping the mushroom’s base between your thumb and index finger, you may take the mushrooms out of the cake. Slowly turn your hand in a clockwise direction until the mushroom releases. Never remove the mushrooms. The mycelium would be at risk of being killed by this damage. Pick the smaller and pin mushrooms once the majority of the bigger ones have been harvested.

Mushrooms that grow from the sides

Wherever the light can penetrate and there is little opposition to it, mushrooms will grow. The mushrooms could possibly grow there because the edges of the cake are illuminated. This is hard to combat and is permissible. Some gardeners cover the grow box’s sides in aluminum foil to make them opaque, but this tactic isn’t always effective.

Mushrooms may be harvested there when they are in season right before the kit is soaked:

• Clean hands! Take the grow box out of the bag and place it upside down on your other hand.
• Wiggle the plastic box so that the cake will fall out, onto your hand. The plastic box can be placed on a disinfectant surface.
• Now you have this hand free to pick the mushrooms from the sides of the cake.
• When all mushrooms are picked, you can place the cake back as it was, in the plastic box and continue to the soaking process.

Soaking

After all the mushrooms have been picked, you prepare the kit for the next flush.

Again, with disinfected hands or gloves; take the grow box out of the grow bag. Fill the box with fresh, potable water. Take the lid out of the ziploc bag and use it to close the grow box. Place the closed grow box in a soaking Bag or use your own clean plastic shopping bag and wrap it around the box. Close it well and place this in a refrigerator (2°C to 8°C) for 12 hours.

This is called the soaking process. Water will now soak through the cake, preparing it for the next flush.

During the soaking you can hang the grow bag with micronfilter upside down to dry. Make sure to hang it upside down, so no microorganisms will access the bag. Many growers prefer to use new and unused grow bags after every flush.

After 12 hours take the soaking Bag with the grow box, out from the fridge and unpack it.

Next Flush

Continue by performing steps 3 through 7 just as you did when you originally began the procedure. A fresh flush will occur a few days later. A Psilocybe cubensis Magic mushroom grow kit will yield at least two or three flushes. If you have growing experience, a kit will yield more flushes.

The end

When no new mushrooms grow in the Psilocybe cubensis Magic Mushroom grow kit after the second flush for at least three weeks, or when it becomes green, red, grey, or yellow, it should be thrown out.If the grow kit’s color changes, which is a sign, the grow kit is contaminated with another fungus or bacteria. The Psilocybe cubensis Magic mushroom grow kit should be thrown away in the outside garbage because it will no longer yield mushrooms.

Spores

The mushrooms will spill their spores if you pluck them too late. Due to the spores, the cake and the mushrooms will become black or purple (some other cubensis strains will turn red or brown). This is only an aesthetic issue; it’s not truly a concern. The active compounds in mushrooms begin to deteriorate as soon as they release their spores. There will be some potency loss in mushrooms.
